SAN DIEGO : Bray Concludes Testimony in Trial

Share

Former city planner Susan Bray concluded testifying Friday in her civil lawsuit against the city by insisting that she was afraid of losing her job, even though former Planning Director Robert Spaulding never directly threatened her.

Bray testified for 1 1/2 days in her federal lawsuit seeking millions of dollars from the city because it allegedly violated a confidentiality clause contained in a secret settlement to a sexual harassment claim against Spaulding.

Under questioning from the city’s attorney, Michael Weaver, Bray said she never described the sexual relationship as “consensual.” But Weaver produced a copy of her harassment complaint filed with the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing, which states: “I consented to a sexual relationship for fear of losing my job.”

The trial resumes Tuesday, and Spaulding is expected to testify on Wednesday.
