Countywide : 2 Sworn In as Judges for Municipal Court
As family, friends and future colleagues looked on inside a packed Ventura courtroom, two former prosecutors were sworn in Friday as Ventura County’s newest Municipal Court judges.
First, Edward F. Brodie took the oath of office, administered by state Appeals Court Justice Kenneth Yegan.
Brodie was elected to the post last spring and was to take his post in January.
But Gov. Pete Wilson appointed him to fill the judgeship on Sept. 9 to replace the retiring Judge John J. Hunter.
Before his appointment, Brodie was misdemeanor supervisor for the Ventura County district attorney’s office, where he trained new attorneys and oversaw prosecution of more than 25,000 cases.
After Brodie’s installation, Vincent J. O’Neill Jr. was sworn into office by Ventura County Superior Court Judge Charles W. Campbell Jr., a former county prosecutor.
O’Neill was chief deputy district attorney under Dist. Atty. Michael D. Bradbury, the third ranking position in the office.
Wilson appointed O’Neill on Aug. 27 to replace Campbell, who had been appointed to the Superior Court.
