W. Allen Reed has been elected vice president and treasurer of GM Hughes Electronics, the parent company of Hughes Aircraft Co., Los Angeles. He will report to Robert J. Schultz, chairman, president and chief executive. Reed will retain his position as corporate vice president and treasurer of Hughes.

Reed, 45, joined Hughes in 1984 as president of Hughes Investment Management Company, a subsidiary responsible for the management of funds held in the company’s retirement and savings plans.
