A Word to Critics: Put Up or Shut Up About Homeless

Share

Regarding Noel Alzua’s letter about the homeless around Santa Ana’s Civic Center: Some men wouldn’t understand the fear a woman experiences when intimidated or attacked by a man.

Upon leaving the Civic Center this last year, my girlfriend offered a sandwich to a homeless man. He went into a tirade about drugs. He didn’t want nor did he take the sandwich.

After I started my car and was waiting for my friend to get into her car, a homeless man charged toward my car waving a flashlight as if he was going to smash my windows.

Don’t invalidate what I experienced because my friend witnessed this, and I had to leave as fast as I could. He then charged after my friend, and she sped away.

If you want to help the homeless, then go live with them, help them, and take care of them. But for those of us who want to work in the Civic Center area and want to be able to go to and from our cars in safety, take your superficial thoughts elsewhere and personally do something to help these people.
