Bush Orders Food Airlift to Armenia
President Bush ordered an airlift of emergency food to Armenia on Saturday to alleviate critical shortages caused by political and economic turmoil in the Caucasus region.
Four Air Force C-5 aircraft will fly 260 tons of flour to Armenia in the next few days. The White House announcement, made as Bush campaigned in Wisconsin, said the United States has begun shipments by sea of 72,000 tons of wheat grain.
Bush was responding to an urgent request Friday from Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the White House said.
