Day Runner Inc.: The Fullerton manufacturer of personal organizers posted a 42% gain in profit for the third quarter, to $1.7 million, or 29 cents a share, from $1.2 million, or 25 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Sales rose 32% to $20.5 million from $15.5 million. Year-to-date profit was up 53% to $2.6 million, or 45 cents a share, from $1.7 million, or 38 cents a share, for the comparable three quarters of 1991. Nine-month sales increased 36% to $48.4 million from $35.5 million.
