Cutting Back on Mail Delivery

Share

Postmaster General Runyon should seriously consider the economic impact resulting from any proposed reduction in mail delivery before putting his plan into action. The ease and speed of our nation’s communication system still give us some edge in a global economy. As computer technology is allowing more people to conduct this businesses at home, any reduction in residential services will severely impact this group.

On the other hand, we can probably achieve better cost reduction by instituting preventive health measures for all of the postal workers. After noting a postman attempts to locate a foot pad for his feet in a local drug store, I wonder if our postal service should provide orthotic counseling to all of the postal workers to forestall work-related injuries and disabilities.

If I were to choose between services and cost, I would opt for the former. When compared to the rest of the world, our mail is still a great bargain.
