District of Columbia voters on Tuesday returned former Mayor Marion Barry to elective office.

Barry won the Democratic primary for the Ward 8 City Council seat earlier this year after being released from a six-month federal prison sentence for cocaine possession. On Tuesday, he easily beat Republican W. Cardell Shelton and independent Richard Miller to officially claim the seat.
