Healthy Rise in October Vehicle Sales: Paced by light-truck purchases, U.S. auto makers said sales of North American-made cars and trucks rose 13.4% in October, the first month of the 1993 model year. Domestic car sales showed only a modest improvement from the year-earlier period. But sales of light trucks continued to post hefty gains, rising 34% from a year ago. Ford Motor Co. led Detroit’s Big Three, with a 22.9% gain in vehicle sales. Chrysler sales climbed 11.4%, while General Motors sales rose 2.6%.
