An Oxnard man was arrested Friday after he allegedly robbed a bank on North Ventura Road for the second time in the past month. The holdup was one of two bank robberies in neighboring cities on Friday, police said.

Gary William Cameron, 36, was arrested by police a few minutes after the 12:45 p.m. robbery at Security Pacific Bank at 606 N. Ventura Road.

The robber entered the bank and presented a demand note stating that he had a gun, then left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, officials said.

Oxnard police Officer Tom Chronister, aided by a police dog, located the suspect in the area a short time later, police said. All of the cash was recovered but no gun was found, police said.

Cameron also is a suspect in the Oct. 6 robbery of the same branch, FBI Agent Gary Auer said. Cameron’s arrest came just days after local newspapers published photographs of the suspect, Auer said.

Auer said that at the very moment Cameron was robbing the Security Pacific branch on Friday, FBI officials were obtaining an arrest warrant for him based on tips received by people who saw the photo in newspapers.

“I do not recall ever any incidents where an individual has gone back and robbed the same bank after his picture had been shown in the newspaper,” Auer said.

A second robbery occurred later Friday at the Great Western Bank at 619 W. Channel Islands Blvd. in Port Hueneme, officials said.

Police said the robbery occurred at 4:05 p.m., but no other details were available.
