Quayle Aide Faults Bush on Campaign
The top deputy to Vice President Dan Quayle faulted President Bush on Friday for not addressing the nation’s economic ills more quickly, saying that “when 75% of the country thinks you’re on the wrong track, you can’t look like you’re sitting back.”
William Kristol, the vice president’s chief of staff, agreed with former Ronald Reagan political advisers Lyn Nofziger and Edward J. Rollins that Bush had mishandled voter unrest over the economy. The three were interviewed on CNN’s “Larry King Live.”
The three agreed also that Clinton had fashioned a formidable campaign. Rollins, who served briefly this year as co-manager of Ross Perot’s independent bid for the presidency, said Clinton’s was “the best campaign I’ve ever seen a Democrat run.”
