Family Values--Respect, Responsibility

Sandra Earnest may be a good mother (“Sanctity of Marriage as an Institution Is Foundation for Happy Home,” Commentary on Family Values, Oct. 18), but if everyone thought it was great to have 10 children, we’d be in a more serious situation than we are now.

The basis for a strong nation is not large families, but individuals who look beyond their own selfish wants and needs. If things are going to change, we all must become more socially responsible and aware of the serious problems that overpopulation is causing. Zero population growth means two children per family.
