Controversial Hiss Case
A Russian general reports that Hiss did not aid the Soviets. In spite of highly placed friends Hiss was convicted of perjury. And this had to do with the copying of State Department documents for transfer to questionable characters. Whether the Russians can find a record is not the point.
I have read “Witness” three times over the years. Hiss stands revealed as a gifted liar, so gifted that he brought great misery to a noble patriot, Whittaker Chambers.
