North Carolina Woman Killed in Friend’s Suicide

LEXINGTON, N.C. — A man who committed suicide by shooting himself in the head accidentally killed a friend standing next to him, authorities said. A single bullet passed through the head of 22-year-old Joseph R. Shatley, then struck 23-year-old Frances Nichols Hall in the face and lodged in her neck Tuesday night, a sheriff’s department official said.
