Asset Seizures
According to “Debate Set on Drug Asset Seizures” (Nov. 5), the state has seized $130 million since 1989, and has also received additional monies from its federal counterpart. This is in addition to the money received from our taxes. I would like to know who is accountable for this money and how it was spent. I would like something a great deal more specific than “fighting drugs.” Law enforcement agencies are constantly complaining they do not have enough funds. It seems no matter how much money they get there are fewer officers on the streets and crime keeps going up. This money should be used to put more officers on the streets.
