Oatsvall Stable After Collapsing

San Diego State punter Scott Oatsvall collapsed on the Aztec sideline with 3:00 remaining in the team’s 52-28 victory over Hawaii. He was taken to Mercy Hospital via LifeFlight, where he was in stable and improving condition late Saturday.

SDSU trainer Brian Barry said Oatsvall stopped breathing for two minutes and that a team physician administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Oatsvall then regained consciousness.

“We still don’t know exactly what the problem is,” Barry said.

Barry said X-rays of Oatsvall were taken while the team waited for LifeFlight to arrive and there was no lung damage reported.

A CAT scan performed at the hospital revealed no negative findings, the team said. Oatsvall was to remain hospitalized overnight.

Aztec players were told not to talk about it.

“At halftime, he was like, ‘I don’t feel good,’ ” one player said. “I thought he was sick.”

Barry said Oatsvall had complained of back and abdominal pain earlier in the game.
