FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Bowlers Will Aid Christmas Charity

Share

Luck of the draw, not scores, will determine the winners of a bowling tournament sponsored by the Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley Assn. of Realtors for the benefit of the Christmas CanTree community food drive.

The tournament is scheduled from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Fountain Bowl, 17110 Brookhurst Ave.

Jim McLaughlin of Tarbell Realtors said the tournament will be conducted in the “blind partner” style, in which one bowler will be paired with another by drawing lots.

He said each player will bowl three games. The score card will then be placed in a barrel for drawing. The players with the highest combined score will win. A player with a low score may win if he is lucky enough to draw a high-scoring partner. Two high-scoring players or two low-scoring players may also be paired together, depending on the draw, McLaughlin said.

There is an entry fee of $10, which will be used to buy canned goods and grocery gift certificates. Among those receiving CanTree assistance are 14 local charities serving the elderly, disabled, abused children, battered women and the homeless.

Area merchants are donating prizes and awards for the winners. McLaughlin said that anyone who buys the tickets, whether or not he or she plays in the tournament, is eligible to win the door prizes that will be raffled off during the tournament.

This will be the sixth straight year that the tournament has been held.

“The bowling tournament gives business people a chance to meet while supporting a good cause,” said Florence Lubow-Bell, the association president.
