From Associated Press

Kmart Corp. said Monday that its earnings rose more than 11% in the third quarter, and Toys R Us Inc. said that its income jumped 15%.

Both companies’ earnings reflected consumers’ continuing search for lower prices. Discounters and specialty stores that stress prices picked up business from other retailers during the recession and continue to do well as the overall retail industry recovers.

Kmart Corp. said it earned $122 million, or 27 cents per share, in the quarter ended Oct. 28, compared to $109 million, or 25 cents per share, a year earlier.
