Unocal Corp. has appointed George A. Walker, 45, corporate vice president of health, environment and safety, with responsibility for policies relating to health and safety in the workplace, emergency response and a clean environment.

Walker succeeds Donald L. Hanley, 59, who retired after 36 years with the company.

Prior to his appointment, Walker, who joined the oil company in 1968, was general manager of health, environment and safety programs for the Los Angeles company’s petroleum products and chemicals division.
