Multimedia computing is one of the growth areas being highlighted at this year’s Comdex computer show in Las Vegas, and Workstation Technologies Inc. in Irvine is hoping to capitalize on the trend.

Multimedia is the blending of standard personal computer features with compact disc-quality sound, TV-quality video and computer animation. Workstation Technologies said it will ship a video circuit board built around a set of computer chips manufactured by Motorola Inc. The circuit board, developed under a strategic agreement with Motorola, gives a PC the ability to play back and record digitized videos on the computer screen. Such videos, in which a picture is broken down into the tiny screen bits that make up a computer image, can be easily edited and stored.

The board will start shipping in January, 1993, the company said.
