Sports Display Announces Plan to Merge With New York Firm

Sports Display Inc., a display advertising network seen in health and golf clubs nationwide, said Tuesday that it plans to merge with Health Club Media Networks Inc. in New York.

Sports Display is a privately held company that has about 3,500 clients and $7 million in annual sales. The merger is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year, the company said, and will lead to combined national and local sales forces with offices in Rancho Santa Margarita and New York. Other terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Health Club Media Networks recently completed test-marketing of a TV network for health clubs that features health-oriented programming and advertisements. It also operates a radio network in 75 clubs in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Washington and San Diego.

Health Club Media, a publicly held company, was started in 1988. It reported a loss of $3 million on sales of $100,000 for 1991.
