FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Checkpoints Target Drunk Drivers

Share

The Police Department is on the road to stop drunk driving.

The City Council on Tuesday authorized spending $11,000 on roadside equipment needed to stage sobriety checkpoints.

The city received a $13,000 grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety for the equipment, which includes a trailer with exterior and interior lights. The trailer is used as a work office at checkpoints and to take blood tests.

Police Sgt. Larry Griswold said the rest of the money will be spent for educational materials, such as handouts on the dangers of driving while drunk.

At the first checkpoint Oct. 31, 10 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving, Griswold said. A second checkpoint is scheduled Friday from 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Euclid Street north of Talbert Avenue.
