LANCASTER : Council Votes to Trim Renewal Area

Share

The Lancaster City Council has voted to delete more than 1,000 acres from a proposed 2,500-acre redevelopment area, after some property owners protested they did not consider their areas blighted and in need of redevelopment aid.

The City Council’s 3-0 vote last Monday night paves the way for a final council decision on the project this Monday.

The area, to be known as Project No. 7, consists of 10 developed and undeveloped sites scattered around the city.

City Manager Jim Gilley said the project will extend the city’s redevelopment powers to the small remaining areas in Lancaster’s urbanized core that are not included in six other project areas.

The city has no set plans for the new areas, but has promised not to condemn any housing.
