Cycling Sentinels
The Orange County Bicycle Coalition does not shun off-road trails as stated in the article “A Recreational Bottleneck” (Nov. 16). Although I personally do not use off-road trails, which may have been misunderstood by the reporter, the OCBC works very hard on behalf of commuter and recreational off-road cyclists.
OCBC members fully support off-road bicycle paths. Earlier this year, the OCBC stopped the city of Huntington Beach from building a parking lot because the proposed entrances intersected the beach bike path.
The OCBC is protecting the rights of cyclists during ongoing construction affecting the Santa Ana River trail. We work with the Army Corps of Engineers, the County of Orange and the cities to develop the best detours for cyclists. Our representative rides the river trail every weekend and keeps a watchful eye on construction progress to ensure that trail segments are reopened as rapidly as possible.
This year the OCBC endorsed three new off-road trail projects in Orange County.
