OXNARD : Success Story Built on Pizza

Share

Jill Lederer knows the pizza business.

When she was 19, she got her first job taking pizza orders over the phone. Now, at 36, she owns 11 Domino’s Pizza franchises in Ventura County.

Lederer discussed her experiences in a speech at the “By Your Boot Straps” lecture series, sponsored by the Ventura County Commission on Human Concerns.

“Be the one who can make them the most money and be sure they know it,” Lederer advised an audience of 30 people.

After Lederer’s talk, several participants stayed for a session with Karen Derman, a Woodland Hills therapist.

“I am trying to help people identify obstacles that were standing in the way of their dreams,” Derman said.

Gloria Faunce enjoyed both the speech and the therapy session. “It’s always interesting to hear how people have solved problems,” said Faunce, who used to own several dry-cleaning stores in Ventura.

The sessions at the Oxnard Civic Auditorium cost $1. The Dec. 12 meeting will feature Susan Frascella, executive director of shelter services for women.
