Abrupt About-Face on Raising Kids

Share

I wish to congratulate Debra Hotaling on the birth of her baby and the careful planning that went into making that decision (“First Person,” Nov. 1).

I’m happy for her, but I do get very tired of people who at first have a strong opinion against something--in this case screaming, unruly children--and then swiftly have a change of heart because they have personally been involved in the experience.

Now, because she has had a baby, Hotaling feels that all laws concerning family values must be enacted and all public buildings must be modified, not only for wheelchair access but for baby stroller access as well.

And while she used to look “horrified” upon the sight of mothers changing their babies’ diapers in public, she now laments how shabbily our culture addresses the issue of public restrooms not having counter space for such needs.

Hotaling is just one more of an ever-emerging, self-centered, me-first group of men and women.
