COUNTYWIDE : Storm Sends Shiver Through County
The southern tip of a weak but frigid Alaskan storm rolled over Ventura County on Sunday, bringing snow flurries to the high country near Frazier Park and freezing temperatures to some parts of the county’s inland valleys.
No crop damage was expected, however, because the lowest temperatures--about 30 degrees--are not likely to persist for extended periods, said Terry Schaeffer, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Santa Paula.
“We’re looking for temperatures in the mid-30s in the inland farm areas, and as low as 29 or 30 in some of the cold pockets,” he said.
“It generally has to be a little bit colder to start doing damage.”
The lowest temperatures were forecast for the traditional cold spots in the Ojai Valley and Santa Paula and Fillmore areas, he said.
Schaeffer said he expected the inland lows to reach 30 degrees again tonight before a gradual warming sets in.
Forecasters said Sunday’s partly cloudy skies should give way today to sunny and windy conditions, with highs in the coastal areas of the mid-60s to 70 and lows in the mid-40s.
