Share

Arovista Park, the city’s largest park, will reopen Dec. 5 after major renovation.

The 13.5-acre park, which is across the Brea Senior Center at Elm Street and Sievers Avenue, has been improved with new walkways, landscaping, two lighted basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, picnic areas and an amphitheater.

Parking and play areas have also been expanded and modified to provide easy access for the disabled. The county provided about $40,000 in assistance, city officials said.

On Dec. 5, a free pancake breakfast will be offered by the Brea Lions Club. The Parks, Recreation and Human Services Commission will sponsor a basketball tournament and a volleyball exhibition.

The park was built in 1958 with donated land, materials and labor. Because of age and extensive use, the park was given priority for renovation.

In addition to county assistance, funding was provided by the Brea Redevelopment Agency, the state Department of Parks and Recreation, the Brea Foundation, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co. and Brea Disposal.
