LANCASTER : City Council Creates Redevelopment Area
The Lancaster City Council voted 3 to 0 Monday to create a city redevelopment area of almost 1,350 acres that could generate up to $750 million in tax revenues over its planned 40-year life span.
The area, to be known as Project No. 7, consists of 10 developed and undeveloped sites scattered around the city and is less than half the 2,995-acre area originally proposed. The remaining properties were previously deleted by the City Council after residents’ protests.
City redevelopment director Steve Dukett said Lancaster can expect to get 25% to 30% of the redevelopment revenues produced in the area over the years, with the remainder going to the county, school districts and other agencies. City officials have not said specifically how they plan to spend that money.
