Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Warning Lifted on Stretch of Highway
The American Automobile Assn. lifted its warning to avoid Interstate 295, near Jacksonville, Fla., citing a crackdown that has led to 20 arrests and apparently ended a spate of random sniper attacks on drivers. The National Guard, Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies said they would continue their stepped-up patrols of the area through the Thanksgiving weekend. Interstate 295 is a major gateway for tourists driving south to Florida for the holidays. The auto club issued its warning Nov. 4 to avoid the area, where more than 30 sniper and rock-throwing incidents have occurred since mid-February.
