SKIPPER STORIES: Bert Minshall of Costa Mesa became a deck hand on the late John Wayne’s Wild Goose in 1963, and was its skipper the last two years before the actor died in 1979. Now Minshall has written “On Board with the Duke,” about those years. . . . A sample: John Wayne loved to hide Easter eggs on board the boat. “He had taken as much delight in the hunt as his children had,” Minshall states. Minshall is still in the boat business: He’s now skipper on a 70-foot yacht owned by Blake Edwards and Julie Andrews.
