Hong Kong Stocks Tumble: Hong Kong stocks plummeted early today, following China’s threat that it won’t honor a major contract for the development of the territory’s port. The Hang Seng stock index was off 122.19 points, or 2%, to 5,864.48 at midday. The market has been riled in recent weeks by a rising war of words between China and British colonial authorities over major economic decisions affecting the city’s future. China wants greater say-so in decisions leading up to its planned takeover of Hong Kong in 1997. The Hang Seng index lost 488.38 points the week of Nov. 16, then gained back 108.49 points last week.
