Ready for Her Close-Up: Tony-winning actress Patti LuPone was announced Monday as the star for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard,” ending speculation as to who would play Norma Desmond in Webber’s new musical version of the 1950 film about a faded silent-film actress. Though Webber had said earlier he hoped “Sunset Boulevard” might premiere in the United States, it will open first in London on June 29 at the Adelphi Theatre. A U.S. opening is slated to follow as quickly as possible at the Shubert Theatre in Century City. A spokesman said that structural work slated to take place at the Shubert precluded premiering the show there. LuPone won a Tony for Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” and received a Tony nomination for “Anything Goes.” She is in her fourth season on ABC’s “Life Goes On.”
