GM Starts ‘Lending’ Laid-Off Workers: General Motors Corp. has begun lending some of its laid-off workers and unused factory space to its suppliers. The giant auto maker is providing Android Industries Inc., a company that makes car-door parts, with 20 of its laid-off workers and part of its Coldwater Road plant in Flint, Mich. Similar arrangements with other suppliers are being negotiated by GM in an effort to ease pressure on the company’s dwindling $3.35-billion income security fund, set aside to guarantee the income of laid-off workers. The workers on loan to Android will receive their full pay, a UAW spokesman said.
