A Bonita teen-ager was fatally shot when a car pulled up alongside the van in which he was riding and someone fired at it, a police spokesman said.
Jonathan S. Jotie, 15, was hit in the back by a bullet that pierced the van in the 3 a.m. shooting on a San Diego street, officials said. Jotie was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died at 3:38 a.m., a county medical examiner’s investigator said.
Police said Jotie had been riding around with five friends in a van taken from one of the friends’ parents. The youngsters’ names are being withheld because of their ages. All were 15 to 17 years old.
The teen-agers reportedly had been driving around for at least two hours, making stops to spray-paint graffiti in Chula Vista, National City and San Diego, a spokesman said.
He said the teen-agers were all in the van traveling through Logan Heights when a car pulled alongside and an occupant opened fire. One of the bullets pierced the van’s side and hit Jotie, who was in the back seat, the spokesman said.
