JOHANNESBURG : Secret Talks

Share

Government and African National Congress representatives head into three days of crucial talks beginning Wednesday, with both sides hoping to speed up the negotiation process and hasten South Africa’s first fully free elections.

No matter what progress they make, both the ANC and the government will be reluctant to make major pronouncements after the closed-door talks. They are afraid that highly publicized agreements would further alienate Inkatha Freedom Party leader Mangosuthu Gatsha Buthelezi, who needs to be included in any final settlement.
