Membership to Expand: PacifiCare Health Systems Inc. said Wednesday that it has received federal approval to provide health care benefits to Medicare recipients in Northern California through its Secure Horizons division.
Under the Secure Horizons plan, Medicare patients in Alameda and Contra Costa counties will pay no premiums if they enroll in PacifiCare’s health maintenance organization.
The approval by the Health Care Financing Administration could increase Cypress-based PacifiCare’s membership by thousands. There are more than 145,000 eligible Medicare recipients in those two counties, the company said.
