The Tournament of Roses Parade may be quite a spectacle, but when it comes to cuteness points, its little baby sister, the Fifth Annual “Rose Bud Parade,” has it beat by miles.

Dozens of youngsters are expected to spend Saturday morning at Kidspace Museum in Pasadena decorating their trikes, bikes, wagons, scooters, skateboards, stilts, pogo sticks and even plain old boxes for the pint-sized procession scheduled to step off at the museum at noon.

“Someone was in a motorized Barbie Dream Car last year,” said Kristie A. Williamson, the museum’s executive director. “It was a classic.”

Activities start at 9:30 a.m., when the children begin decorating--with help from professional Rose Parade float builders from C.E. Bent and Sons, Bravo and Festival Artists, who are also supplying flowers, seeds and glue. And several members of

this year’s Tournament of Roses Court will make an appearance.

While the parade is not under the jurisdiction of the Tournament of Roses, the organization has donated volunteers to help with the crowds and get the little participants lined up to march the three-quarters of a block route in front of the museum at 390 S. El Molino Ave.

“Some of our participants are only 2 years old,” Williamson said. “Their legs don’t carry them as far.”

Grand marshals will be Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, and Williamson said another surprise guest will be on hand. Hint: he likes red clothes, reindeer and says “ho-ho-ho” a lot.

The $5 admission includes float building, parade entry and admission to the museum after the parade. Reservations are recommended. Information: (818) 449-9144.
