La Mirada : Planting of 490 Street Trees Will Begin in Foster Park
- Share via
The city will plant 490 street trees in the Foster Park neighborhood near Imperial Highway and Valley View Avenue using a $49,950 federal grant obtained through the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Perry Turigliatto, city environmental services director, said city code requires a parkway tree in front of every home, but only 20% of the city complies. He said La Mirada will apply for future grants and plant trees in other neighborhoods as money is obtained.
Planting of the Foster Park trees will begin in late December or early January and will take 35 days to complete. Varieties will include ficus, pine and sweet gum.
