Long Beach : Abandoned Baby Released to Temporary Foster Home

Share

A newborn baby abandoned in a gym bag last week has found a temporary home with foster parents.

The baby girl left Memorial Miller Children’s Hospital on Thanksgiving day, one day after a 13-year-old boy found her outside a closed day-care center at 495 E. Plymouth St., Long Beach.

The infant--called Samantha by hospital nurses and Jamie by the family of James Walker, who found her on his way to school--is in good health, hospital spokesman Ron Yukelson said.

Long Beach police are continuing to search for the baby’s mother. Detectives believe she lives in the area where the baby was abandoned less than three hours after birth.

“I’m hoping someone will call in with information,” Detective Wayne Clark said. Anyone with information about the newborn or her mother is asked to call (310) 590-7321 during business hours or (310) 590-7345 after 5 p.m.

Police had received more than 60 telephone calls by Wednesday, but they were all from people wanting to adopt the baby, Clark said.
