An Oxnard man died after the bicycle he was riding was struck by a motorcycle traveling at high speed, police said Thursday.
Arnulfo Cordova, 31, who was riding a bicycle in Oxnard north on Justin Way, was crossing Bard Road about 4 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck broadside by a motorcycle driven by Russell Hughes, 21, of Oxnard, police said.
Cordova suffered a skull fracture, broken bones and internal injuries, authorities said. He was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, where doctors attempted to stabilize him. He was then transferred to Ventura County Medical Center for neurosurgery. He died at 9:30 p.m., according to the Ventura County coroner’s office.
Police estimated that Hughes was traveling at 70 m.p.h. An investigation disclosed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, police said.
Hughes was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, reckless driving and parole violation, police said.
