SANTA PAULA : Artists’ Visions of City to Be Displayed

Share

Artistic visions of Santa Paula by 49 photographers and artists will be on display Sunday at two receptions in Santa Paula.

The first show, which features the photos of 35 student photographers from the Reseda Adult School, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. in the art gallery of the Santa Paula Depot at the corner of 10th Street and Railroad Avenue.

Each student was asked to cover a specific side of Santa Paula, and was allowed to submit up to six photos, said instructor H. Warren King. Subjects in the one-day show include the Latino community, the airport, city government, cultural Santa Paula, farms, Main Street and industry.

“Santa Paula has that small-town look, and we don’t have much of that here in the (San Fernando) Valley,” King said. The students will attend the show to discuss their work.

By coincidence, Santa Paula gallery owner John Nichols asked 14 Ventura County artists and photographers to take a look at the city, and will open a show of their work Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

“When (King and I) found out we were doing the same thing, we felt it was a good idea to have receptions on the same day,” Nichols said.

The second show will remain on display for several months at the John Nichols Gallery, 910 E. Main St., Santa Paula.
