HomeAid, a charitable corporation of the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California, will officially open the Sammy Davis Jr. Manor on Tuesday, marking completion of its first permanent affordable-housing project.

The 47-unit studio-apartment building was named for the late entertainer as a tribute to his generosity to charitable causes, said builder George Lightner, chairman of the board for Home-Aid Southern California.

Dedication ceremonies from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will feature Sammy Davis Jr.’s daughter, Tracey Davis, Mayor Tom Bradley and other city officials. The project is located at 340 S. Reno St., in downtown Los Angeles.

“We are extremely proud of the project,” Lightner said. “After completing 17 transitional shelters for the homeless over the past three years, we are thrilled to establish HomeAid’s housing division by celebrating the dedication of this flagship project.”

Incorporated in 1989, HomeAid’s two-part mission is to address the problem of the homeless through construction or renovation of shelters for the transitionally homeless and development of permanent housing for low- and very-low-income residents of the Southland.
