From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A man convicted of taking part in the beating death of a Vietnamese-American student was sentenced in Ft. Lauderdale to 50 years, double what state guidelines recommend. Circuit Judge Richard D. Eade said the “savagery” of the crime merited the sentence for Bradley Mills, 18, convicted of second-degree murder. Mills was one of seven young men charged in the slaying of Luyen Phan Nguyen. The other six are awaiting trial. Nguyen, 19, a premed student, was attacked after he objected to being called names at a party.
