LOS ANGELES : Victim Identified After Severed Arms Are Found

Share

Authorities on Wednesday said they know the identity of the woman whose severed arms washed up on shore in Los Angeles earlier this week, but declined to release her name until they can notify her relatives.

Los Angeles Police Lt. Ross Moen said the woman had been reported missing. However, he stressed that the limbs were not those of a 20-year-old Santa Monica College student whose disappearance two weeks ago attracted media attention.

County workers on Monday found two severed arms, one at the southern tip of Venice Beach and the other floating nearby in a basin of the Marina del Rey pleasure boat harbor. Investigators said the limbs appeared to be those of a Caucasian woman. An air and sea search failed to turn up any more body parts.

Authorities had said earlier that if no body was found, they hoped to learn the woman’s identity from fingerprints.
