CASTAIC : 2 Jail Escapees Are Still Missing

Two inmates who scaled a razor-wire fence and escaped from Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho in Castaic were still at large Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

The pair, reported missing from the jail’s south facility about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, broke out of the medium-security dorm and scaled a fence, Sgt. Noel Lanier said.

The escapees were identified as Victor Castillo, 24, a Los Angeles resident awaiting trial on drug charges in lieu of $10,000 bail, and Jorge Maldonado, 20, a transient jailed on suspicion of attempted robbery in lieu of $15,000 bail, Lanier said.

Both are scheduled to appear in court later this month.

A late-night search of the vicinity, using a county helicopter and two teams of tracking dogs, failed to find them, Lanier said.

“Fresh blood at the scene leads investigators to believe that one or both of them were injured when they climbed over a razor-wire fence,” Lanier said.

They were last seen wearing jail uniforms--blue pants, orange shirts and denim jackets.
