Pacific Telesis Decision Expected Soon: The telecommunications holding company’s board is meeting next Friday and, according to several analysts, is likely to make a final decision then on whether to divide the company between its monopoly telephone operations and its more speculative, high-tech ventures. The split was proposed last April by Pacific Telesis Group Chairman Sam Ginn as a means of evading the regulatory and financial constraints that hamper telecommunications companies with both regulated monopoly businesses and fast-growing new operations, such as cellular and cable television franchises. An increasing number of analysts are predicting that the board will approve the split.
