A woman whose severed arms were discovered floating near Venice Beach was identified Thursday as a 48-year-old resident of Southwest Los Angeles, police said.

Cheryle Gossett, whose body has not been found, was identified through fingerprints, said Los Angeles Police Lt. John Zorn. Gossett. The woman was reported missing Nov. 28 and was last seen driving a burgundy, two-door 1973 Toyota Celica.

Her arms were found by county workers Monday; one at the southern tip of Venice Beach and the other floating nearby in the Marina del Rey boat harbor. The limbs had been in the water for less than a day. An air and sea search failed to turn up more body parts.
