VOICES : Fans Cheer Franchise News

Share

As the National Hockey League Los Angeles Kings played the Quebec Nordiques at the Forum in Inglewood on Thursday, fans there welcomed news that Disney was bringing a franchise to Orange County:

* “I come from Huntington Beach and I won’t miss the San Diego Freeway,” said Bryan Turner, 28, a student. “You have traffic on the way up and drunk drivers on the way home. We (in Orange County) deserve this. We already have the Angels and the Rams. Now all we need is a basketball team and I’ll never have to come to L.A.”

* “It’s great,” said Paul Sloane, 40, a sales manager from Anaheim. “I’ve got to drive here from Anaheim and that’s no good. Now maybe I can even walk to the game. That way I don’t have to watch what I drink.”

* “It’s about time,” said Jason Jackson, 33, who works at a computer store and lives in Fullerton. “I’ve come out here for 10 years. Before (the Kings) got the black uniforms. And this is a long drive, especially at night.”
