Warner Bros. Records representatives deny rumors that the company is quietly preparing to drop Body Count, Ice-T’s hard-rock band of “Cop Killer” notoriety, from its roster. In fact, a source at the company says that executives are “quite pleased” with the group’s debut album, which has sold nearly 600,000 copies. . . .

Having completed its worldwide “Zoo TV” tour, U2 has announced a one-off outdoor show at Phoenix Park in its native Dublin--Europe’s largest park--for Aug. 28. . . .

How will Queen fans stand the wait before Hollywood Records offers another of its seemingly endless repackagings of Queen material, which probably won’t come before summer? Well, Queen guitarist Brian May, who has a solo album due on Feb. 2, will be the opening act of the next phase of Guns N’ Roses U.S. tour. And a home video featuring performances of the late Queen singer Freddie Mercury is being prepared for release some time in ’93. . . .

Be careful if you’re buying a Commodores greatest-hits package: The new two-volume “Commodores Hits” CDs may not be what you think. Instead of the original Motown versions of such hits as “Machine Gun,” “Brick House” and “Slippery When Wet,” featuring Lionel Richie, these are new recordings by a recent Richieless version of the group. . . .

The new Virgin Megastore isn’t the only new record-company-related music outlet on Sunset. L.A. independent label SST has opened its own store about a mile west of the gigantic Virgin store, with the slogan, “1% the size, 10 times the (guts).” . . .

Manchester, England’s Factory Records, the home of New Order, Happy Mondays and other ground-breakers, has gone belly-up after long-running financial difficulties. Debts were reported to be more than $3 million. . . .

Eazy-E’s upcoming “Temporary Insanity” album has grown into a two-CD or cassette package, with a total of 30 songs. . . . Another hard-core L.A. rap act, Above the Law, has a new album, “Black Mafia Life,” due on Jan. 26. . . . Producer Peter Asher, known for his work with Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor and many others, has signed on to oversee Randy Newman’s new concept album of songs based on the Faust legend. . . .

The Indigo Girls, Michael Penn and Rick Danko and Garth Hudson of the Band are among those who joined Croatian expatriate musician Nenad Bach on “Can We Go Higher?” a new single and video benefiting relief efforts in war-torn Croatia. Also involved in the project are actors John Malkovich, Martin Sheen, Michael York and Ellen Burstyn. . . .

Oops Dept.: Singer Karyn White had a daughter on Nov. 24 but her husband is not L.A. Reid as was reported in Small Faces. The proud father is half of another famed production-writing team--Terry Lewis, Jimmy Jam’s partner.
